Delegates will be asked to choose 2 of the 4 workshops available
Workshop 1
CQUIN and Risk Assessment
• Driving up patient satisfaction to deliver high quality care through innovative working practice
• Engaging with clinicians and educating them to assess the risk of VTE in medical and surgical patients
• Understanding the impact of auditing and reporting on VTE risk assessments
• Gaining some insight into the future plans for prophylaxis measures and audits
Workshop 2
Audit and Root Cause Analysis
• Educating all staff on the risks and possible consequences of VTE
• Delivering patient centred care through involving patients and carers in decisions about treatment
• Balancing the risks of VTE and bleeding before offering VTE prophylaxis
• Regularly reassessing the risks of VTE and bleeding whenever the clinical situation changes
• Utilising electronic approaches to assist with risk assessments
• Planning for appropriate discharge ensuring that the patient has a thorough understanding of their condition
Workshop 3
Engaging with nurses, midwifes and junior doctors for early detection of Venous thromboembolism
• Supporting and training multi-disciplinary teams to ensure early identification and detection of VTE
• Assessing, planning and implementing the care of patients suspected of having VTE
• Empowering staff to ensure that high quality care is provided at all times
Workshop 4
Mobilising pharmacists in venous thromboembolism prevention
• Supporting the safe care of patients through effective use of medicines
• Educating and engaging with the whole healthcare team around pharmacological issues
• Assisting with clinical audits and routine reviews of compliance
• Utilising the pharmacists role to support local VTE prevention programmes
