Over the last couple of decades the enormous development in technology has been felt in the most personal areas of our lives.  While mobiles, pcs and the internet have transformed banking, socialising and shopping, their potential is yet to be fully realised in healthcare.  Within healthcare we can be ready adopters of new technologies, such as PET CT scanners and new drugs but, healthcare needs to catch up with new ways of communicating, managing information and most importantly managing and delivering care.  Telehealth and telemedicine are much talked about but what do they really mean for those in the field and on the receiving end of these new technologies, can they really deliver some of the changes that we need to see if the NHS is to remain viable?
